The junior open shore will again be held at teignmouth on
17 th
august 2008. the times to be announced shortly.
The Wyvern Junior Open 2007 competition took place at
Teignmouth and the sharp shower in the
morning did not put off the 33 junior anglers who took
part. Conditions for the event, which was fished from 2pm -
6pm were good, sunny and warm with a brisk West wind.
Most of the junior anglers fished all along the back beach
at Teignmouth but with a West wind blowing the organisers
opened up some of the front beach to allow them to escape
the wind.
Fish caught through the afternoon were Garfish, Mackerel,
undersize Bass and Flounder and when the scales closed at
6-30pm six of the juniors had weighed in their catch.
In first place was 7 year old Elliot Joy from West Bay SAC,
he weighed in a Garfish of 1-2-1
(75.2%) This won Elliot the Vic Cannon Trophy plus a new
rod, reel, tackle box, tackle, waterproofs and a pair of
waders. (Not bad for only £1 entry). Second best specimen
went to Daniel Bristow (West Bay SAC) he too caught a
Garfish, slightly smaller at 1-0-3. This also won Daniel
armfuls of tackle and a new rod and reel plus the Teignmouth
SAS Trophy. Members from West Bay certainly had a good
picking on the day as another member filled the third spot.
Oliver Mears caught a Garfish of 0-11-8 which again won him
a rod, reel and tackle and the Centrax Cup.
A Garfish of 0-8-5 won the best 12-15 year olds for James
Grimshaw (Torbay and Babbacombe ASA) and Joel Baker (Navel
Stores SAC) had a Garfish of 0-11-9 to win the best of the
under 9 group
After the age group awards were made the fourth spot went to
William Messenger who caught a Mackerel of 0-8-0.
Lastly the team prizes were awarded and this year with
generous sponsorship from tackle dealers and shops the team
prizes could be awarded down to 4th place. 1/ Daniel
Bristow / Oliver Mear (115%) 2/ Elliot Joy / Nancy Bostock
(75%) 3/ William Messenger / James Grimshaw (66%) 4/ Joel
Baker / Tom Frost (45%).
The NFSA Wyvern Division would like to thank all their
sponsors for this competition along with thanks going to
Teignmouth SAS for the use of their hut on the back beach.
Lastly thanks to the Wyvern President Harry Bottomley for
awarding all the awards on the day.
Lastly you would think the kids had done well on the day,
but before leaving they were all given cakes and drinks and
a huge goody bag of tackle. Roll on next year !.
Juniors, please ask your club if they
are
taking part in the Wyvern Division fish of the month
competition. If the answer comes back as no, then please
ask them why they are not taking part. For only £5 a year
from each club your own fish could have been winning fish of the
month prizes for ages now. Each month there are 4 gilt
medals and 10 certificates up for grabs. ASK your club now
why they do now enter, they can ring me on 01404 43397 to take
part straight away.
PLEASE ASK NOW FOR YOUR FREE
WYVERN SAFETY CARD, THESE SHOULD BE READ AND KEPT IN A SAFE
PLACE. PLEASE FOLLOW ALL THE SAFETY GUIDELINES ON IT.
One junior has already used his whilst fishing and organised a
full rescue for his grandad, so they do work.
If you catch any good fish while out
fishing why not take some pictures with your phone or camera and
send them to me for the gallery page.
